Anderson C.V.I. Grade 12 student, Brayden Hockley, was awarded a bronze medal at the 2015 Skate Ontario Championships in the STAR 5 Men over 13 category. This is the highest point of competition a skater at Brayden’s level can compete. Brayden won the opportunity to represent the Pickering Skating Club at this event by winning Gold at the 2015 Skate Canada Central Ontario STARskate Championships in February.

Brayden has been skating for over 12 years and is currently focused on his next level of tests for Senior Bronze Freeskate, Junior Silver Dance and Junior Silver Skills. He trains three times a week at the Pickering Skating Club operated out of the Pickering Recreation Centre. According to Brayden, his biggest challenge has been living up to his old brother’s achievements. Figure skating is a family affair with Brayden’s mother, Cheryl, coaching at the Pickering Skating Club, and his three older brothers, Troy, Jordon and Graham, who have each competed at the highest levels of the sport. Graham competed at the World level for Greece with Nikki Georgiadis while Jordon skated with Kelly Oliveira, winning two national titles (novice in 2010 and juvenile in 2006) and two national silver medals (junior in 2011 and pre-novice in 2008).

Brayden also teamed up with Riley Sawyer to compete in the Ice Dance category. The two placed fourth against the best figure skaters in Ontario.
