18 Skaters Set Sights on Podiums at U.S. Competition

The Pickering Skating Club is pleased to announce that on May 17th and 18th, eighteen Skate Canada Pickering Skate Club members will be representing Canada in the upcoming Annual Spring Skate Festival in Cheektowaga New York.  The Annual Spring Skate Festival is a major skating competition in the United States celebrating its 25th year in operation and promises to attract top skaters from across North America. Skaters will be judged according to the rules set forth in the 2013-2014 U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook.

The team consists of 10 Senior and 8 Intermediate STARSkaters.  Senior skaters include: Faith Lewis, Holly Branigan, Cassie Nielson, Amy Wu, Brayden Hockley, Christina Hazell, Arline Killam, Emily Weightman, Ashley Hamburger and Riley Sawyer. Intermediate skaters include Sara Currie, Phoebe Gatsis, Caitlain Ball, Madison McKay, Stephanie Hintermeister, Lauren Balke, Madelyn Jones  and Brooke Farrell.  The team will be accompanied by their coaches, Lisa Taylor-Farrell, Cheryl Hockley and Linda Donnelly, who are optimistic about their chances.

The team trains out of the Pickering Recreation Complex’s Delaney Rink and will be competing in multiple categories showcasing their skills in Freeskating, footwork, jumps, spins, showcase, compulsory moves, dance and music interpretation.
